“In 1942 a group of business men decided to start a club. They called this club “The Dashwood Business Men’s Club”, with 12 members. The meetings were held upstairs in Clayton Pfile’s shoe store. Clayton Pfile and Dr. Taylor started it. In 1946 Dr. Hobbs Taylor and a few members were chosen to draw up the first constitution. In 1948 or 49 the club decided to build a building to get a bank started. The Bank of Montreal accepted and a bank was started. It was open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
January 10, 1953 they revised the constitution and the club name was changed to ‘Dashwood Men’s Club’. At this time it was also changed to Dashwood and surrounding area. They had 44 members. In 1953 on April 20, the club bought property from Ed Nadiger, for $600. This was the property where the Community Centre [now] stands.
