Dr. Voldemars Gulens MD (1910 – 1980)

(below) Former residence and offices of Dr. Gulens. The building was also occupied by Dr. R.H. Taylor during his practice, who installed a small surgery on its second floor. Around the turn of the 20th century the second floor was utilized for a time as a “town hall” by the community. In 1912, during Henry Willert’s term as postmaster, the ground floor on the east side (l.) of the building was used as Dashwood’s post office. [Ed. note: Henry Willert served as postmaster from 1912 to 1922. (Rader pg. 37)] This location was also the site of the first house constructed in the community, by Absalom Fried. On page 4 of Mary Rader’s book she states that this structure was subsequently “moved by J.K. Goetz to the south end on the hill across the creek.”
