Herbert Wein Garage / Tieman Coal Storage

(below) The brick structure on the left is the former Peter McIsaac building, which later became the Tieman furniture store. The concrete block structure immediately to the right (east) of the former Tieman furniture store was utilized until the 1960’s by the Tieman company for commercial coal storage. Prior to that, it was used by Herbert Wein for automobile and agricultural implement repair and gasoline sales. For a brief time in the 1930’s the building was the home of V.L. Becker’s International Harvester dealership. (Rader: pg. 36)

“For 65 years Tieman’s were one of the top coal dealers in the south part of Huron. Mervyn remembers his dad sold his first ton of coal for $10.00, now it is about $83.00 a ton. They sold the last about thirteen years ago and it was $40.00. The vehicle used for delivery for coal and other hardware merchandise from 1917 to 1939 was a Model T Ford purchased from Milo Snell of Exeter in 1917 for $513.00.”
